Richard Howitt
Richard Howitt MEP has been a British Labour Member of the European Parliament since 1994 and has been recently re-appointed as a member of the Delegation to the European Union -Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee. As a leading member of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Socialist and Democrat Group Spokesperson for the Subcommittee on Human Rights, and Spokesperson for British Labour MEPs on Foreign Affairs and Enlargement, Richard Howitt has worked towards Turkey's EU Accession and is a founding member of the Labour Friends of Turkey campaign group. He travels regularly to Turkey meeting with Government, political parties, media and civil society organisations. Richard Howitt is pleased to co-sponsor the European Parliament Launch Event of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture.
